Words cannot describe how much I love this book. It’s the kind of book I’m sure I will remember forever. And that’s saying a lot because I have a terrible habit of forgetting books two seconds after I set them down. Shockingly, despite the journal format, once the meteor hits the moon (yes, there is a meteor that hits the moon), it’s wonderfully gripping. This book has such a compelling disaster story, I’d probably read it in any kind of format. Let’s just say I checked my cupboards a lot and thought about my water supply. And it has one of my favorite book scenes of all time. Anyone who’s read it will know which one I mean. The journal format actually makes a lot of sense for the story as well. The main character has started a diary to record the historic event of the meteor hitting the moon, after which the world is changed forever. What helps tremendously is that Pfeffer is brilliant about embedding those scenes that feel like active ones, so after an entry or two, I got over my disappointment about the format and felt very involved in the story.
