What a great book. I enjoyed the way the narrative came together slowly, going back again and again to fill in more pieces of the story of Sethe. The story of her escape from slavery is only complete at the very end of the book, when the reader finally finds out what happened and how she had escaped. This is one of those books that are a little hard to get into at first, but once the reader is there, the book is hard to put down. I saw Beloved as a representation of the absolute worst about slavery and human nature, which is why she was so destructive - a constant reminder of how slavery injures one's soul to the point of doing what Sethe tried to do to her children.
climbers and their families. how do you reconcile the two?
This book contained just about everything I want in a story: amazing characters with depth, thrilling adventure, romance, humor, and thoughts about the Deeper Things in life. It was a book for teenagers without being condescending or taking itself too seriously. Neal Shusterman did a great job with this trilogy, and Everfound just wraps it up perfectly. I highly recommend the entire series.
