If the purpose of Burn is to show how a target/victim can snap and become an aggressor when there is no adult intervention in a repeated bullying situation, then Burn is successful. I like that it wasn't quite AS predictable as I thought it would be when I first picked it up. Students (and parents and teachers) might really benefit from reading this, but I couldn't bring myself to add the third star simply because it was depressing all the way through. Again, this may be the whole point, but the main character was angry throughout, and I cannot say that I really liked a book with not a single moment of joy in it. Too exhausting. I would have liked to have seen a convincing example or two of how "normal" and happy Cameron used to be before the bullying, rather than being told all of this, and only witnessing his anger and frustration. I might have felt even more connected to the main character. I did feel Cameron's exhaustion, though, and in that way, Burn is effective.
