While the author strives to convey this "ultimate" point on living and dying through the tale of the death of a good friend, it just annoyed me. The author took everything so seriously from this dying old professor that he doesn't offer his own opinion on the subject or critize the professor's opinions. It read to me as a very one-sided point of view of a very large subject matter.
