Rule Dewar is not looking for a wife when he is summoned to his employer's Howard Griffin of Griffin's Manufacturing. They talk business, and then Griffin tells Rule that he is dying of a liver disease. And he also says that he has to get his priorities in order for him to rest in peace when he dies. Including Griffin's daughter, he wants to find a good husband for her so he picks Rule. Rule and Violet Griffin's daughter get married right away and then Rule leaves for america. Three years later Violet goes to London to confront Rule. When she gets to his place of residence, she doesn't have the guts to tell him the reasons she came to England. Until the next day Violet confronts Rule and asks him for a annulment. Violet wants to marry again so she can feel loved. Only Rule sees how beautiful his wife is and doesn't want to break the wedding. So Rule proposes that Violet give him a chance at being a good husband. So Violet excepts the offer. Only to have her other love Jeffery Burrnett come all the way from Boston to see how things are going with the annulment. Rule gets pissed when that happens so he confronts Burrnett. Then when Violet tells Rule that she wants to sell the company they both agree. So they come to care for each other and work together to find someone to buy the company. And they find Charles Whitney, and they have their problems with details of the company. Soon after Rule is sent for by whom he thinks is Whitney, only to find him dead in his apartment. Then Rule is framed for murder and it takes the help of a chimney sweep boy and an unlikely crook to set him free. The police catch all the people responsible for the crime against Rule. Violet is so relieved that she tells her husband that she loves him only for him not to return the sentiment. Rule finds it a conundrum that he can't return her love, so he goes to his brother Royal for the answers to loving his wife. When Rule returns home he finds his wife Violet at knife point, he is so scarred for his wife. So the man holding her asks him for money and then he will let Violet go. Rule gives the man the money and tells Violet how important and how much he loves her. One month later Rule and Violet are holding a charity event for all the children Violet helped save from Simon Pratt the man who was holding her at knife point and the guy who had those children working as chimney sweeps.
