I am not liking this series. I'm not sure if this book was worse than the first or that I had less patience for it in a second novel. Some of Kay's books are some of my favorite books, and if it weren't for the fact that this was his 2nd novel, I would have no idea how this could be the same author. What I don't understand is why this series is his most well read and well rated on goodreads. A smart person would stop reading, but I'm going to try to finish book 3. The biggest problem is that the characters have no agency. They don't actually do anything. They just wait for prophetic visions, or wait until they have some deep connection to the world and then they know what they need to do. Characters with no personality suddenly sacrifice themself and it is supposed to be deep and meaningful, but I've had no connection to the character and wondered why they were even in the story up to that point.
