A very odd little book. I believe it is, by design, a collection of short stories, but they are all interconnected and have many of the same characters...that served to make it, in my mind, a bit confusing. Frankly, the 'story' I enjoyed the most was the one that was least relevant to the rest of the book. Oh well.

This book was LONG! Not that I usually shy away from a lenthy book - but there were too many pages that bored me. I kept feeling like I should care what was happening to the main character but the development was slow & all I really wanted to know was how she came to scene where dorothy's house fell... Interesting, b/c I thought that I would have LOVED this one.

Liked it more than my "liked it" rating implies; I'd give it a 3+ rating. It's a good story about ordinary people. Loved the old brothers - I interpreted them as Dusty and Lefty, Garrison Keillor's cowboys from his weekly A Prairie Home Companion radio show.
