Quan Chung Chung itibaren Kieta, Papua Yeni Gine
This book starts with a striking portrayal of professional wrestling and the public's obsession with living vicariously through these embodiments of myth dealing with real life situations (the rich tycoon vs. the wrestler unable to make ends meet after the financial crisis). Chris Hedges' writing is cutting and stark in its appraisals of where our culture is morally. He offers a solution in the end of the book that centers on the untapped reserve of our capacity to love in order to overcome the madness. After several hundred pages of eviscerating our society for its lack of reading and passive consumption, the point may not be to remind us to love or its power but it does fall short of some practical way of working collectively. An enjoyable read, though be prepared for the chapter on porn. It's jarring.
