Orwell's, 1984, is the story of one man's struggle against the ubiquitous, menacing state power (“Big Brother”) that tries to dictate nearly every aspect of human life. I must admit, at times it was a tough read but in the end it did get you imaging if what you read was fact or fiction. The line between fiction and reality start to blend.
I've read one of Guy de Maupassant's stories a few years ago, The Horla, for a class called The Sublime, the Fantastic, the Uncanny.
