I love Michael Cunningham!

This is a smartly written collection. Each story offers a different perspective on the complex relationship between tourists/visitors and those living in Thailand, as well as the class structure that complicates matters within the Thai community itself. The insights are fresh and meaningful. The language is unexpected and engaging. Similarly, the characters in each story come alive and make this collection a page turner. The heap of critical praise it's received is much deserved - a great read. I really recommend it!

I learned that my Mom would get very angry about the kind of "smut" I was reading even after I passed age 18. She did not care for this book. I, on the other hand, enjoyed the smuttiness immensely.
