I enjoyed this book. There was a lot of twists and turns that I did not expect. It kept me guessing till the end.

There is a difference between living your life and later someone decides it's memoir-worthy and living your life with the memoir contract in hand, trying to figure out how to make it interesting or, in this case, enlightening.

This book sparked one of the greatest book club discussions of all time. Waller managed to capture the heart break of small towns dying out due to "progress." It really made me think about my impact on the planet and the need for us all to slow down and do things the right way instead of just finishing something fast.

This is the third book by this author that I have read. I can't figure out why he's not more popular. The title character was a high school senior who was murdered many years ago. The police have few clues and blame a vanished group of drifters. In modern times the wife of the governor (of Minnesota) consults her old high school boyfriend who's a detective. It seems that she's just received an anonymous E-mail saying that her husband was the killer of the title character, who was then his main squeeze. The detective, for old times sake, takes the case. He pokes around in the small town in which the murder took place. Of course, there some nefarious characters who poke back. It's a quick and excellent read.
