Another delightful little story! It turns out I am a very young child at heart. ;-) I love the drawings of Miss Moppet!
Fantastic- laugh out loud funny. Not as outrageous or crazy as "Fear and Loathing", but absurd nevertheless. I can only assume that the Rum Diary closely mirrored reality for HST, and that thought is a scary one- all about him joining a dysfunctional set of drunks trying to put out a newspaper in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As always, there are the musings about the "straight and narrow" path, vs some pull toward the weird and bizarre and different. A lot of early monologue for him- "how do I find myself in these situations?", etc.
What a great story! This vivid depiction of the sights, sounds, and animation of the characters and the story line was a credit to the author and the subject material. I so enjoyed the perspective of the protagonist and the means why which Gruen builds both the past and present by varying the chapters and the stages of the character. I am very anxious to see the movie now, if for no other reason than to see if it is done justice by the film makers. Such a fabulous read!
