I actually liked this book quite a bit. Mick is pretty dreamy and even with his "demons", he's pretty mild. A bit more touchy-feely than I might expect a jock to be, but I can suspend disbelief long enough to just enjoy him. And I liked that he wasn't an over-alpha bad boy. Just a guy who also happened to be really good at football. Then there was...Tara. Who had the more tragic past and was quite noble in a pick yourself up by your bootstraps, sacrifice everything for others kind of way. And while I "get it" that she would be less than trusting of someone like Mick...there were a couple things that bothered me about her. For one, when Mick finally worked up the courage to come clean about the skeleton in his closet, which he thought was going to completely ruin his chances with her...she was a saint-ess and made him feel small for not believing in her, for thinking she would judge him based on her experience with others. But at every other turn, she DID. She judged him constantly. She jumped to conclusions, she saw him hurting her, where he NEVER did. And the one time that she may have had a legitimate beef with him (for something from his past that he couldn't change), she belittles him for thinking that she'd jump all over him...? She lures him into a sense of safety, then turns around and cuts him down for some imagined slight later. It became pretty old. But I liked him so much that I wanted to see him win and I was happy when he got his HEA. All that said, Tara wasn't horrible or TSTL. She wasn't a bitch, she was just a bit too hurtful to my hero at times...and not cuz she was mean, but because she had pretty low self-esteem and she thought she needed to protect herself. Whatever. It was an enjoyable read with pretty good characters and very hawt sex.
