Delightful, witty, a must for Proust fans. Even though up to a certain point it mocks self-help books (something that, sadly, as I see from other reviews, some people haven't understood) , paradoxically you can actually learn something from it, specially if you are a Proust lover like me.
I was severely underwhelmed by this book, considering the subject matter. I'm usually enthralled by historical fiction like this, enjoying learning more of the impact or war. Unfortunately the writing was so choppy and nondescript that it did nothing but irritate. I didn't get emotionally connected to anyone. Then the only real storyline of the book that was compelling was solved about halfway through, leaving the rest of the book extremely slow and dull. The secondary story of Julia's modern day life was painfully unrealistic. It didn't seem like real people going through real conversations and emotions. It was painful to finish & I would not recommend it to others.
