I don't know why I forgot to list this one in my initial frenzy of listing books way back when I joined. Quite simply one of the most important books to come out of America. Ever. The ending won't feel satisfying, but by that point you'll understand the author's point: that the ending isn't what is important; that the journeys to get there are. A fair warning is that this is art very consciously commenting on life commenting on art commenting on life: don't pick this one up as a beach read. Do pick this book up, though. Incredible novel, HIGHLY recommended.
