I liked how the author was so creative by using death as the narrator.

Loved it! Literally grabbed it off the shelf because I love Vermeer-type paintings and had no expectations of what I was getting. What a happy surprise! Griet did what she needed to help her family out, while never losing sight of herself. Her "master" saw her gift and wisely did not dismiss it. That she ended up living a good life, while the family she served fell apart, is testiment to her strength. This book is inspiring me to seek out more historical fiction!
