I first encountered Nick Flynn's work at a reading I attended for extra credit. I left speechless - I wanted to tell everyone how exquisite, thoughtful, deliberate, melodical Flynn's words were, but I felt there was no way I could do his poems justice. Instead, I bought two copies of "Some Ether" - one for me to keep, the other to thrust into the hands of anyone and everyone who would accept.

Looks like classic 1950's American goodness. So precious and Goodnight Moon-esque.

Cute story about a tween girl named Foster and her mother who run away from their last home (due to mom's abusive "Elvis" boyfriend, who seems to have taken ALL of Elvis's behaviors to heart) to a small, economically depressed town. They quickly fit in, and Foster makes friends by getting her cupcake bake on. I agree with Laura--I wanted recipes. A word from this Vegas girl: more than one Elvis is Elvi--not Elvises. ;)
