I thought this book was so, so interesting, and important, but I just could not get through it. It's long. Some parts are technical. Some parts are repetitive. I am taking a break, possibly giving it up, since I have so little time now to read books.
An obsessively poetic mental health warning against marriage, pre-war divas and Americans abroad. Fitzgerald's incredibly polished sentences frame sore wisdoms about people and why we inevitably get each other wrong much of the time etc. Beautiful people of the 1930s glide around the French Riviera misreading each other, and then amusing each other, and then understanding each other too well and getting scared. Fitzgerald writes so well it's frightening. High intensity, hard work and high maintenance; highly recommended.
