This is a YA fiction written by one of T's students. It was a super fast read which I enjoyed. The writing is just okay, not beautiful, but it doesn't get in the way either. Obviously, no plot is truly original, but this book seems to take it's form from The Hunger Games (maybe a little from the Uglies etc.). Both describe distopian societies and a main character torn between choosing her best friend and a more intriguing boy. Agency is one of the main themes as Cassia also tries to make her own choices only to be told that The Society has already predicted them. It really bugs me when a book doesn't complete a story arc in one volume. This book ends - leaving you hanging with little resolution at all. There isn't even a partial story completed (like with Harry Potter - each book stands on it's own, but can still be part of a larger series). I feel like it's just a book-selling gimmick. Of course, I'll have to read the next one to find out what happens.
