It was really a great way for me to relive my trip to Florence.
** spoiler alert ** There's a danger in writing a book with an end in mind. I never liked the main character and when I finally reached the ending I understood that it was a necessity of the book. Or, I guess the author thought it was a necessity. I think it could have been achieved without making Mary Saunders completely loathsome. The author read about a girl who killed her employer with a cleaver and set about creating a girl who would wind up in those circumstances. I read the book expecting some growth from the heroine, characters are supposed to grow in the course of a book, but she didn't grow she diminished and seemed incapable of learning. In all, this book is a huge disappointment. Also, the random view point shift halfway through the book was disconcerting, though maybe a relief from being stuck in Mary's head.
