We know that the death of Alex's friend Thomas is more than it seems within the first couple of pages in this well-written book set in the fall of 1982 at an all boys boarding school. Alex knows more than he is telling and so do his friends Clay and Glenn. Are they trying to hide something more sinister and does their English teacher, Miss Dovecott, know more about what happened then she is saying? Throughout the book Alex slowly reveals what actually happened to Thomas and begins to question his friends motives. He also develops a crush on Miss Dovecott, but can he trust her to help him and his friends with the secrets they are hiding? An excellent book with an well developed narrator who doesn't want to be noticed but has a remarkable intellect that he struggles to hide.
