I read "Gates of Fire" and "300" by Frank Miller around the same time. "Gates of Fire" is a fictional story also based on the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C. This is a well written account of what it was like within the Spartan forces. Pressfield provides developed characters and storyline while simultaneously demonstrating how kickass the Spartans were. Would recommend to anyone interested in this genre.

Loved this book! I especially like that their relationship isn't a cookie cutter one where they easily overcome all trials and get married! Lori is quite the character and I think John is a perfect match!

Excellent Book. It is a classic tail of hardship and life at sea. The book has a tragic, yet fitting ending.
