I actually found the humor of Shakespeare in this play.

She starts a poem called "My Teenage Life" with the line: I felt "remorse for civilization" I love her. I love this collection, for its combination of sunshine and radioactive waste (both are, in fact, cancer-causing). The two long selections (sections 2 and 4 of the book) are my favorites, they weave in and out of themes. I read the whole thing cover to cover, for like the fourth time, on a sunny day by the waterfront.

I picked up the book because I thought it was going to be about a girl who talks someone out of committing suicide when he randomly calls her on the telephone, but it ends up being about something else. The caller does threaten suicide but after the girl attempts to locate him out in the snow the story takes on a supernatural quality. After that I wanted to put the book down, but I wanted to know what was going to happen more. I kept wondering who this supernatural creature was and what he had to do with the main plot. I never really figured it out until the very end. As I look back on it now, it all makes a lot of sense.

I liked this book, but the more closer I was to the end, it was less and less fun, and I found it boring and kinda disgusting. But I'm glad I've read this book.

I was skeptical of the first person narrative and style of writing at the beginning, but as I read through, I found Sharp Objects to be surprisingly satisfying. A thoroughly disturbing book, it still manages to be relatable and a book that should be read during the day.
