one of my favorite books of all time.

I liked the continuation of Satrapi's story. She made some terrible choices after she left Iran, but considering she faced life in a foreign country alone, with little support, it is no wonder. In Iran, she was told by the government what she could wear and could not wear, how she was to act, speak, etc.... To be suddenly given so much freedom, Satrapi tried on persona's and attitudes of the people around her, while trying to find herself.

This is one of the rare cases where the movie (BBC produced) is better than the book. I enjoyed the juxtiposition of the agricultural south to the industrial north of England but didn't find the characters or plot very compelling. A comtemporary of Dickens, she has Austen's wordiness. I liked "Wives and Daughters", another of Gaskell's books, better. The end of "North and South" was especially disappointing.

im almost done w/ this book. It's just sorta boring, i mean i didnt really like the way it was written. I think it started out with a good story line, but it just sorta bored me more and more as I continued to read.
