This book is for anyone who doubts the purpose of service and building community.

This is an excellent book! This book changed my life, caused me to change my career, and spurned me to dive right into the culinary world. This is a up close and personal, behind the scene look at the inner workings of the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. The fact that the author is a writer and went there as research (not undercover and not with the intent to become a chef) allows for great storytelling and a knack for details but a little bit of separation that a person living and breathing culinary school would not have. If you are at all curious about culinary school or think that the life of a chef is all glamour and food network, read this book. Intense, riveting, interesting.

i read this book a really long time ago, perhaps right after it came out. i remember the writing being very simple and clean but the story touching and somewhat suspenseful in parts. i believe Haruf provided a vivid sense of locale and the characters living there.

Wouldn't have read this but for book club. I don't like cats nearly enough to enjoy this book.

I read this to Tessa. I didn't like the #2 movie as much, but I had forgotten how great the book is! Of course Tessa loved it too.

Essential book of poetry. Hugo makes his place your place, and never lets you leave. Quite funny as well.
