Okay - nothing more. Expected more from Tamamora Pierce I guess

looking back, I'm not sure how much of this was substantiated but that didn't stop me from loving this book as a youth

Henry(a girl) wants a pet. But when Rosalie, a duck, becomes her pet, the adventures begin. This is a good beginning chapter book.

Short and sweet stories of the author's family and friends and her personal experiences growing up in Cuba. She was born in 1939 and left Cuba in the early '60s shortly after Castro came to power. Each little story is followed by recipes. As with favorite songs, quite often certain dishes will spark memories for us, which is the whole idea behind the structure of this book.

** spoiler alert ** A wonderful revisioning of the land of Oz and all the events that lead up to a house dropping on the head of the Wicket Witch. We meet Elphaba (eventually the Wicked Witch of the West) and Galinda (eventually Glinda) as they are students in school. Political differences and differences in how to reach goals and a love affair cut tragically short. I actually enjoyed the book up to the point that Dorothy arrived and then found it anticlimatic at that point. He could have ended it before then and I would have enjoyed it more - but still a great work.
