Cautionary note: read any Russian literature translated by Pevear and Volokhonsky; they're the best out there! I'm awaiting War and Peace. Also. Evidently Laura Bush once said that her favorite book of all time is "The Grand Inquisitor." This "book" being a 20-page chapter in a 500-page book, it seems slightly like cheating to claim it so, especially for a librarian. Alas. Grimdark... there was a bit too much convenience, luck, or genius to the main character for my liking but I still really enjoyed the book. It was simply "abra cadabra" and there happens to be a back door to this huge impenetrable fortress one too many times. But at the same time, I didn't want to put the book down...and I plan on reading the next one in the series soon enough.
