I first heard about Birkin bags on an episode of Will and Grace when Will mentioned that the waiting list for a Birkin bag was 2 years long. So, when I saw this book at the library, I thought, "oh, now I can find out why you have to wait two years for a handbag!" I have absolutely no knowledge of the fashion industry or designers (you know, outside of ANTM), but I sure enjoyed this book. It's a memoir about how Michael Tonello learned he could make a tidy profit by buying Hermes products in person, especially Birkin bags, and then reselling them on Ebay. It's written in a highly accessible and lighthearted way, with lots of entertaining descriptions of a 5-star world I will never experience -- the fashion, food, beverages, and hotels. Definitely a fun read, if you're in the right mood for a light memoir. Added note: I forgot to mention that the author lives in Barcelona, and he travels all over Europe and beyond to track down these bags, which usually cost between $8,000 and $20,0000 each.
