Second in the "Birthmarked" trilogy. I waited a long long time to get my hands on a copy of this. Because I had to wait so long to read it I kind of forgot what the first book was about. I couldn't remember how deep the romance between the main characters was. Anyway, this author writes a "good" YA dystopian novel. There are so many out there, but these are among the best. Gaia is up against a different enemy in the society of Sylum but here they value her skills as a midwife. I thought it was a good read, fast paced with enough action to keep me going, ethical questions arise, governments overthrown and like Gaia herself states, a "love square" good enough to make anyone question "will they or won't they?" (It is a YA book after all). I look forward to reading the next one and hope it's not too long.
