I give this book a 4.25. It's full of action and the characters are great -- all very distinct and believable. A combo between "The Most Dangerous Game," "The Lottery," and reality TV, this story's a great concept for a YA. Not exactly "literary" fiction, but a fantastic read nonetheless. The nitpicks that kept it from getting my 5 star rating: The story started out a little slow (a lot of telling and explaining, which had to happen, but I think it could've been done a little better) and the first chap, I was a little confused -- the main character felt like a male at first. So, that was a little jarring. Additionally, I think the story would've been better off w/out so much kissing. That got a little old after a while. But loved it and can't wait until the sequel. Would make a fab movie, too!
i loved this book! it made me want to quit my job and move and live in all the different countries that i've been fascinated by. i wish that i could spend the time either just eating to my hearts content and getting fat or learning more about myself spiritually and being finding joy in the little things in life.
