In this title the love story is between Payne (long lost twin of Vishous) and Manny Manello (human and friend of 'Doc Jane' from a previous installment. I think this is one of the least believable of all the black dagger books, which is really saying something. In a couple of previous titles Payne is glimpsed and portrayed as a female warrior, a real take-no-prisoners kind of girl, trapped in the seclusion of the 'other side' with her goddess mother. This makes for an interesting character, however as soon as she is introduced to the 'real' world she becomes a much weaker character indeed. For example, she claims to have seen all about Vishous' "predelictions" in the 'seeing bowls', referring to his BDSM lifestyle that she has it seems observed for herself, yet she then apparently claims to know nothing about sex or men in general. Shoddy writing indeed. I did read the whole series back to back, so I was a tad jaded with the whole formula in general, but even so this is one of the weakest in the whole series, at least as far as the main romance plot goes. I find the side plots involving Quinn, Blay and Wrath to be far more interesting.

maybe it's because i don't find urine particularly erotic, but i wasn't really impressed by this one.

Eh, not as good as Phillippa Gregory's other books.
