Fun story. Read this again 25 + years later and still enjoyed it. Maybe I got a little more of the symbolism this time - really causes one to think.

A very pleasant read. I enjoy his wit, and of course it has a gentle making-fun-of-Americans appeal to it. (But it's not too caustic: he did, after all, move back to America after living in England for decades.) My biggest complaint is simply that it's a collection of editorials. (Literally.) This makes it great to read on a trip, or in short bursts, but when you're done you can set it aside and hardly think of it again. I would have loved to have read a story with the same wit and undertones.

I am glad I read this book. I've enjoyed other books by this author, but for whatever reason, either the cover or the description on the back, the book didn't look too appealing. But, since I had it checked out from the library I gave it a try. I am glad I did. It was interesting to read about cranberries and good to read about a family who found healing through forgiveness.
