This book should be read by everyone. Especially those living in New York. Kind of reminds you why you put up with this sometimes crappy city: magic happens.
This book is genius, but I did find it a little hard to get into. Once I got through the initial chapters and started to understand the cleverness, I enjoyed it a lot more. A great book to sink your teeth into - definitely one for lovers of paranormal fantasy and sci-fi fiction. Overall, this is a great book: much stronger in plot and character (in my humble opinion) than others books by the same author.
Tight prose, subtlely funny, and in many ways profound. Lahiri's collection is nothing short of amazing. The title story, "Interpreter of Maladies" is probably the best, followed by either "Mrs. Sens" or "When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine." The stories tend to blend together, however, and some are not as memorable as others. But the level of craft is masterful. -C
