Inhalt: In der Nacht zu ihrem 16. Geburtstag befindet sich Tori auf einem Feld. Völlig in sich gekehrt übt sie Pirouetten und bemerkt zunächst nicht, wie mehrere Jungen aus ihrer Schule sich ihr nähern. Unter ihnen ist Liam, der anfängt Tori zu belästigen und zu bedrohen. Wie aus dem nichts erscheint auf dem Feld ein wunderschönes Pferd, stellt sich Liam in den Weg und beschützt Tori. Schließlich gelingt es dem Hengst, Toris Gegner in die Flucht zu schlagen. Doch dabei wird das Tier verletzt und stürzt bewusstlos zu Boden. Tori tritt an das verwundete Tier heran und traut anfänglich ihren Augen nicht. Was sich vor ihr abspielt scheint einfach unmöglich zu sein. Die Umrisse des Pferdes beginnen zu schimmern und plötzlich liegt dort kein Tier mehr vor ihr, sondern Cam, der neue Mitschüler aus Kanada. Was Cam ihr dann einige Tage später anvertraut, übertrifft Toris Vorstellungskraft. Nur nach und nach wird ihr klar, in welche Gefahren sie durch das Kennenlernen von Cam hineingezogen wurde. Denn ihn umgibt ein mysteriöses Geheimnis. Meine Meinung: ‘Sternenwandler’ ist mein bisheriges Highlight in diesem Jahr! Obwohl die Geschichte einen Fantasyhauch hat, wird die Lüftung des Rätsels um Cam so wissenschaftlich und glaubwürdig aufgeklärt, dass das Phänomen der Sternenwandler gar nicht so realitätsfern erscheint. Umso begeisterter war ich, dass auch die Liebegeschichte der beiden Jugendlichen so lebensnah und wirklich erzählt wurde. Die Beziehung zwischen Tori und Cam ist einfach bezaubernd. Im Laufe des Buches musste ich für mich feststellen, dass die beiden zu einem der faszinierendsten Liebespaare gehören, die jemals in einem Buch dieser Art vorgekommen sind. Die Autorin Tracy Buchanan beschreibt die Beziehung der beiden sehr authentisch, schreckt also nicht davor zurück, auch die Schattenseiten der Liebe zu thematisieren. Die Geschichte der beiden trieft nicht vor Kitsch, im Gegenteil, sie ist so leicht, romantisch und wunderschön, wie die erste große Liebe sein sollte. Ich bin in die zauberhafte Liebesgeschichte völlig versunken. Neben der Liebeshandlung greift die Autorin weiterhin eine überaus spannende Abenteuergeschichte auf, die den Leser förmlich den Atem anhalten lässt. Diese Passagen sind so fesselnd, gut durchdacht und unvorhersehbar, dass es schier unmöglich ist, dass Buch aus der Hand zu legen. Genauso dramatisch und bewegend ist die Beschreibung der Familiensituation Toris, die immer wieder auf eine gleichzeitig schockierende wie packende Art und Weise thematisiert wird. Fazit: Kauft dieses Buch! Es wird euch nicht enttäuschen. Ich war traurig, als ich die letzte Seite des Buches beendet hatte und habe mir gewünscht, dass diese wunderschöne Geschichte niemals endet. Da das Ende des Buches zwar in sich abgeschlossen ist, einige Fragen allerdings noch offen bleiben, hoffe ich wirklich sehr, dass die Autorin einen zweiten Teil schreiben wird.

I love Annie Proulx's writing and I also love books about the West and meditative works on the natural world. Add these likes with my passion for HGTV and this book seemed like a natural fit for me. Ms Proulx is a wonderful writer but I was not as enthralled with this book as I had expected. I would have liked more information on the process and decisions that led to the design of this massive house. I felt that much of the design for the house was based on snap decisions and not environmentally well thought out. I perhaps should be heartened that such a careful writer can be human when it comes to building a dream house. The book begins with a short genealogical discussion of the author's family. I wasn't taken with this part of the book. The real strength of the book is in the chapters where Ms Proulx observes and comments on the comings and goings of the avian population around Bird Cloud. Here the writing is compelling. The portion of the book dealing with the history and mismanagement of the cattle industry and the terrible toll recreational hunting took on the wildlife of the West during the early part of the Twentieth Century is also quite interesting. I didn't feel connected to the portions of the book where the author discusses construction mistakes and costly delays. Somehow I couldn't feel the author's connection to the actual home.

No one writes pop culture like Klosterman. I hated the cover, loved the book. I knew I liked the book because it interested me in things I never normally would have cared about, ex. the Lakers-Celtics rivalry and the Left Behind series. Especially the Left Behind Series. He knows how to pick his subjects. Who wouldn't love a book that says, "Doesn't anyone here own Appetite for Destruction? Do these people not realize that even if you wake up around seven, you're not supposed to get out of bed until nine?" The thing is, when Klosterman's being a jerk, he calls himself out on it before you can, therefore once again making it funny. I love pretty much everything that drips from his pen.

I'll have to read more John Irving. Writing a book that spans generations must be very difficult, but he pulls it off flawlessly. The characters are very alive and the setting is entirely absorbing and believable. He tackles some tough social issues as well and does it tactfully and intelligently. I got more than I bargained for with this book.
