Generally I enjoy a coming of age story, relaing to the character in the numerous mishaps and challenges that arenfaced during adolescence. The sheer wordiness of this story made it somewhat painful to read at times. I enjoyed hue first couple of chapters but as the pages went on I did lose interest. It seems as though many enjoyed this one but it was not for me.

Great book for the younger age group. Another coming of age story but I still loved the book. It was a lot of fun to read and it was an easy read. It starts with the hero Percy Jackson being in middle school and ends when he's sixteen. It's a great story, told with incredible imagery, great accuracy as far as mythology and history. It's a great series overall.

3 and a half stars. Not my favorite Larson book, but informative. I real close look at what life was like in Germany before Hitler had full power, but was rising. How can we avoid being tolerant of the wrong things? I'm sure we make excuses at times too. Sometimes all it takes is for good people to do nothing. I didn't realize how slow the world was to believe those who did speak up.

This is one of my favorite books of poetry written in the last thirty years. I'm mentioning it on here because it's been such a useful tool for me as a writer. It includes some really famous poems, such as "Meditation at Lagunitas." That, you can find online here: http://www.diacenter.org/prg/poetry/8... It's a sort of elegy to language, with a few jabs at deconstructionism, all mixed with a heavy dose of lyrical beauty.... But there are other poems in the book that I continually return to when I am hard up for a poetic idea, or poetic language. Hass has this casual sentence structure that, if you mimic it, allows you to talk about complicated ideas in manageable language. One example, from "The Beginning of September," is: The child is looking in the mirror. His head falls to one side, his shoulders slump. He is practicing sadness. Not a brilliant passage, but, it's simple in its observation, and complex, I think, in what it chooses to observe.
