An absolutely fantastic zombie novel. Moody adds some new twists to the genre, but stays pretty close to the core zombie cannon. Be prepared to read the three sequels (I think there is a fourth sequel in the works). They increase in scope in a similar way to George A. Romero's classic "...of the Dead" series. This one felt more intimate, with only three main characters. While reading this novel I began asking myself the question, "Why would people in this situation try to survive, instead of just giving up? And are those reasons any different than the reasons we try and survive in the real world?" I ended up writing a 14 page paper exploring my philosophy on those topics. Very rewarding!

It was a tough read, a bit disjointed and jumpy from one subject to the next. Heavy issues of God, religion, country ties, and rebelling against the Europeanization/Westernization of Turkey make it a very current and good read.
