I really enjoyed this book once I got about half-way through it. Some have said if you enjoy reading fast, don't bother. I completely agree. It took me 3 weeks to read this book, and on average a book this size would take me less than a week. Once I became involved in the book, I was trapped. I truly enjoyed the story of The Book Thief and her family, and though I enjoy happy endings, this was a nice and realistic change.

Although this is a rather short story, I really liked it :) I really enjoyed the interactions between Joam and Blake, it was wonderful to read how this two found and saved each other. Joam is a lonely and wounded young man and although no one in his life has ever been there for him, he maintained his sweet and caring nature. Blake on the other hand has had to face a lot of problems in his life so far and he is a little bit jaded but still he is sensitive towards Joam and puts his feelings first. The paranormal elements in the story are a little bit sparse and I would liked to have more details about the varnals but it didn't really bother me. ...and I loved that a shifted varnal looks like a greyhound! That's just too cute :) So, great job with this book Jessica, I will go and buy the sequel :)
