Wow really sad book that makes you think about how good you have it and sometimes instead of asking for more we should give to those who aren't as fortunate.

It took a bit to get into this novel, but after the first chapter or so, I managed. I am glad I did. I have never read anything fictional from this period, but having a medical background, I was intrigued. Ruth Downie did not disappoint with the medical scenes, (possible) early diagnoses/treatment of diseases and the period details such as living conditions (again, not having read this era before) were just fascinating. I ended up liking Ruso a great deal, enjoying his beleaguered but likeable style and sly humor. A definite good read.
