I have been putting off reading this book for a while now, because it never seemed like something that I would really like. This past week, I decided to give it a try, and I am really glad that I did. Suzanne Collins creates a really disturbing world; a world that really didn't seem like it was too far from current reality, if you think about it. I mean, how many people, including myself, watch Jersey Shore because of the drama and fights that happen every week? In The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen sacrifices herself to go to the games, instead of her younger sister, Prim. The games are literally a fight to the death where two children from each district are chosen to represent. You heard me. Children fighting to the death. Did I mention that the entire nation is forced to tune in and watch, as a reminder of the deference the districts need to have to the Capitol? I told you, clearly disturbing. I really liked this book, but it didn't leave me feeling warm and fuzzy when I finished. I felt unsettled and off, but I think that was the point. Hopefully the movie lives up to the story!
