Really good, my first one by Jet Mykles but certainly not the last. The story's a little too much perfect but what do you expected with a unicorn and a virgin/pure heart loll.

Albert Brooks, comedian, actor, film maker, futurologist??? Brooks takes a run at Alvin Toffler's territory, albeit in fiction form. He tells an engaging story that revolves around one key theme taken down the road a little - that people in America are living longer due to advances in health and technology. But this has a high cost, which is born by the country and in many cases directly by the younger generation that is becoming disaffected. Brooks takes this to a boiling point when China no longer wants to loan money, and America is faced with a devastating disaster. The result Brooks portrays is a novel way China decides to work with America and in effect extend their sphere while allowing America to save face. I found this quite optimistic compared to many other paths I see the country taking. For business planning purposes, stories of the future focused on a theme are often used to highlight the possibilities and to expose possible strategic decisions for a company to take. This is a great example of such a future scenario and could be used, along with other books based on different themes, as required reading for planners. I am very interested to see if Brooks does additional similar books describing a future given different themes (how about reliance on petroleum?). I can see this turning into yet another career for him, sort of like Dr. Eliyahu Goldratt and his novels on business optimization, but for planners.
