Drug use in the 1920s. Long, but interesting.
I remember trying to read this book when I was around 16 but found it very boring, there was no excitement that I was craving for... Then at a much later date I picked it up again and found it very good, I really learnt a lot about rural England, the lives of peasants, the food they ate, the crops they grew, everything about rural England. The author Flora Thompson has done such meticulous research about even very small details. It is such a detailed account that it would provide a lot of material to anyone carrying out serious research on rural England at the turn of the Century.
In New Moon Edward leaves Bella, because Edward family throughs a birthday party. It is all going well untill Bella gets a paper cut and Edward pushes Bella and when she feel all the glass plates break when she falls and her arm gets all cut up and most of the vampires kind forget that they do not kill vampires, so Edward and his family leave Bella, so Bella is depressed. Bella and Jacob because really good friends, but when Bella jumps of a cliff for fun Alice ( Edwards sister) comes to see if Bella is dead, and when Edward finds out he goes to Italy to get the head vampires to kill him, but Bella comes and save him from being killed, and he comes back to live in Forks, WA
I liked the idea of the book, but I was disappointed in his lack of discussion on the way culture/society has hurt the prospects for love. His To Have or to Be? is much better in this sense.
