I use this on school visits. Children readily identify Todd Parr's illustrations (from TV's "Todd Parr's World"). The book is silly fun and the kids love it (especially the octopus holding 8 books).
This is one of those books I wished would never end. In it, Kingsolver's writing, which has matured since The Bean Trees, uses the lush natural and cultural world of the southeast coast of the US as a backdrop for three related stories of brave, wild women. This is a complex story that brings forth the rich inner lives of strong, smart women facing grief.
I am setting random lines of Petrarch's poems written for Laura to several styles of original music.
This has been sitting on the various incarnations of my bookshelves for a decade. I kept it around for the two most amazing dedications I have ever received, something of a benediction on the way out the door from graduation...chosen for the title. It's about time I opened its pages and see if the content is as appropriate a gift as the cover was back then.
