That DWJ is a master storyteller goes without saying. The woman brought us Howl Jenkins, for goodness sake. Since it landed on the New Book shelf at the library, Enchanted Glass beckoned me to get off my butt at the reference desk and take it home. Unfortunately, this one fell a little short. Many plot details are under-explained, and the action doesn't pick up for a good chunk of the book until the introduction of the villain. Then the fun and suspense begins. Andrew and Aidan, the protagonists, and the horde of other character make the story, with all their quirks and strife (and vegetables). Anglophiles will enjoy the unadulterated idioms, terminology, and long walks through the English countryside. Otherwise, the humor fell short and the twist at the end gave me the heebs - if we can believe the words of a villain.

A fitting companion series to the Harry Bosch books, the Mickey Haller/Lincoln Lawyer books don't disappoint. They're probably the most realistic novels about a lawyer practicing criminal law out there, because they don't shy away from the tactical considerations and even the tedium of sifting the facts, while Connelly keeps the tension going. This is a pretty ripping one, with topical context coming in the form of fraudulent goings-on in the world of foreclosure mills.

This is the first instruction manual ever written about anything. And it is about how to die and enter into the Bardo(the state in between death and rebirth), and attain liberation from Samsara(The circle of suffering, i.e. earth).
