You look at the cover of Drink Slay Love and think dear god, not another vampire story (also: is that True Blood?). Yet this cover is deceiving, because Drink Slay Love isn't just another vampire story. Similar in conception to the stunning novel Infinite Days, it is less about being a vampire than about being human. There are several excellent plot twists (one that not even I saw coming). Frankly, why has no one merged the vampire and unicorn mythology until now? That's bloody brilliant. Our MC is a confident, call it as she sees it, take no prisoners kind of gal. She stays true to herself throughout the book even and especially in regards to love interest Evan. His actions would have been easily romanticized in other YA books, but not here. AMEN! Overall: A-
