This book broke my heart. I fell in love with the characters and really mourned the loss for the husband and dog throughout. I think this is a really great quick read that will make you reflect on your own relationships with loved ones. Charming, sad, very interesting story.

** spoiler alert ** Honestly, it still a surprise to me, even after reading them twice, that Katniss chooses Peeta instead of Gale. Gale would have been my choice, but I tend to want that sort of guy. The one that needs taming hehe. Mockingjay overall wasn't the best book of the series, I thought Catching Fire was, but again, probably only me. The ending was okay, but the battles were amazingly described.

I read this novel for my HOA's book club, and though the stories of Leningrad during the great seige of World War II were interesting, I had little patience for everything else. The prose was inelegant and even forced at times, but it did improve for the "fairy tales." I'm sure most of my fellow book club members will love it, but I just can't bring myself to. However, I'm responsible for leading the discussion, so I'll spend the next few days thinking of ways to spur discussion about the novel. Perhaps I'll learn to appreciate it more after talking about it with others who've read it.
