I've heard so much about Paulo Coelho, and his books seem to be everywhere, so I finally thought I'd give this one, which seems to be his most popular, a chance. The Alchemist is a parable about a boy who follows his dreams, and the hurdles (you can't call them obstacles, because nothing seems to stop him) he encounters on the way. It is an inspiring story, as any fairy tale is meant to be. Just like all modern fairy tales everything turns out perfectly in the end. However, I've learned that I have come to prefer the original fairy tales, where sometimes one of the heroes gets lost along the way, an aspect of the story that can teach its own lessons.
