The writing in this book is smooth but somewhat digressive. The personalities of the women who went on this great adventure are not clearly drawn, but their true grit in dealing with wild mountain hardships and advancing the cause of education is evident from the results of their efforts, and the way they lived their lives after they both married. It's an interesting picture of what miners' and homesteaders' families endured in the early 20th century.
