"The Inheritance of Loss" fell short of my expectations for my first read of the summer. Though the story was interesting, it lacked the strength to tug at the heart strings. As I was reading I thought the author said a little too much instead of letting the reader feel it out for themselves. I was drawn to "The Inheritance of Loss" because Kiran Desai won the Man Booker Prize. I think she took on a big challenge to write about finding one's place in the world from both the macrocosmic and personal perspective. However, in her attempt to cover both, I don't think either was particularly effective.
