This is a very readable account of a girl growing up in forced exile at the leper colony in Hawaii. The author does an excellent job of developing the many characters that inhabit the story as well as giving insight into the taboo of leprosy. Most of all it is a story of triumph of the positive aspects of the human spirit. Very enjoyable read.
