This book is the silver lining to getting amnesia because I could find and read it again for the first time.
This book is relevant to my interests, seriously. It's about an immersive video game, OASIS, that's become a substitute for the real post-energy-crisis real world, whose designer dies and creates a game quest for control of his empire. Professional hunters work through quests and puzzles based on the creator's favorite 80s D&D modules, movies, songs, and video games, not only to win control of the OASIS, but to keep control from the IOI corporation, who would turn OASIS into a commercial enterprise.
I really loved this memoir-- the author was funny, poignant and relevant to me-- and the different people and places described during her year of travel were so memorable. Some sections/phrases/sentences were written so beautifully that I reread them again and again.
I remember avoiding this because it was going to be all girly and frilly and dances, and then it was sarcastic, sardonic, and brilliant. Guys especially - you'll like it more than you think. Really.
Very sweet story.
